ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - June 12, 2007 - US Technology, a leading provider of IT services
and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) solutions for Global 2000 enterprises, today
announced its support of the World Environment Day with several Green Day-themed
initiatives that were celebrated across its global locations. World Environment
Day is designated by the United Nations and is held on June 5 each year. It is a
day that is set aside to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment and to
enhance political attention and action. The intention behind June 5 is for company
personnel to come together and make a promise to one another to preserve and protect
the environment so as to create a greener and healthier tomorrow.
According to the May 30, 2007 "Social Responsibility Of The Global Corporation"
from Forrester Research, "Companies weighing the risks and rewards of globalization
often overlook aspects of social responsibility - specifically, what they owe to
the communities abroad from which they are profiting. Being a global corporation
implies more than a cross-regional distribution of operational activities like sales
and marketing. With mounting scrutiny from customers, governments, partners, and
shareholders, risk professionals must consider the importance of working responsibly
with regional and local communities worldwide."
This is the second year in a row that US Technology has participated in an eco-friendly initiative in support of World Environment Day. US Technology kicked off this year’s Green Day initiative at Technopark in Trivandrum, India with the donation of 2,007 saplings to the Forestry Department of Kerala. The company also donated 1,000 saplings to the Isha Foundation, a non-profit organization in Chennai, India. And in the corporate headquarters in Aliso Viejo, California the company is working on designs for its next new facility where the focus is "green".
"The world today is surviving because of the rainforests. More than just planting trees and operating environmentally friendly buildings, we are creating a corporate consciousness that transcends our office walls to include the environment that surrounds and sustains us. Many corporations are blamed for destroying the eco-systems of the earth and we want to do our part in reversing that trend," said Dan Gupta, chairman and CEO, US Technology. "We are trying to emphasize the vital importance of the earth’s eco-system by involving all of our employees. Planting trees is just one of the many activities that are an integral part of our on-going, long-term initiatives that we are committed to as a company to support the earth’s eco-systems."
US Technology Builds a Green Campus
The first new, eco-balanced campus will be built in Trivandrum, India and will showcase the extent of the company’s commitment to "green". Care is being taken in the layout of the buildings to utilize natural light while sunscreens reduce the need for air conditioning through efficient sun insulation. The buildings are being placed to benefit from natural wind patterns. Almost all of the parking will be subterranean, allowing for more native grasses, plants and trees in open areas. A half-acre park and jogging path will be created for exercise and relaxation.
Hydrology studies are underway to determine how to best utilize the natural water flow through the campus. Budget has been set for a water purification plant to filter water, capture rain water and reclaim grey water from the campus grounds. All sewerage will be pretreated prior to being expelled from the campus grounds. Studies are being performed to look at efficiencies through insulation and solar power generation.
Annual Commitment to Support the Environment Through Green Day Initiatives
Green Day is one of the ways that US Technology communicates its corporate social
responsibility. The day is a reflection of the culture and values of US Technology
and showcases the company’s voluntary and participative culture. The Green Day theme
was created as part of the unique Colors program, an exclusive, in-house volunteer
organization that seeks to achieve organizational objectives such as contributing
to the communities where the company operates. The company is committed to making
Green Day a platform for a positive ecological difference to the planet.
